In Recognition Of Earth Day April 23, 2012
Laura Richardson, D-CA
"My home state of California has made great strides in developing a “green economy” and investing in renewable sources of energy. In 2011, California added more wind power than any other state. The state’s wind industry now employs 4,000 5,000 people and is responsible for 3 percent of the California’s electricity. Additionally, the solar energy industry in California alone is comprised of over 3,500 solar companies, which employ more than 25,000 people. These industries should be recognized for their contributions to job creation as well as their growing success in securing our energy independence."
In Recognition Of National Golf Day April 19, 2012
Laura Richardson, D-CA
"In my home state of California there are over 900 golf courses, generating an average annual revenue of $15.1 billion. California’s gorgeous courses are huge tourist magnets and provide 160,000 jobs for Californians. I am also proud that my state of California is home to some of the most storied golf courses in the nation, including the legendary Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines."
Surface Transportation Extension Act Of 2012 April 16, 2012
Laura Richardson, D-CA
"Now is the time for swift action by the House action on the bipartisan Senate bill that will save or create 132,000 transportation jobs and 45,000 transit jobs in my home state of California."
Contraception February 8, 2012
Lois Capps, D-CA
"But, you know, some would have us believe that the administration’s rule is in some way radical. It is not. Twenty-eight States already require the coverage of contraception in their insurance plans, and the new Federal standard is based on the one that has worked in my home State of California for many years. It has done so without any religious hospitals dropping coverage or firing employees. It’s worked perfectly well. The administration now has made the right call, and I speak on behalf of women in this country urging the administration to stay the course."
Intelligence Authorization Act For Fiscal Year 2012 December 16, 2011
Mike Thompson, D-CA
"This bill will increase information sharing throughout the intelligence community. It includes a provision that is important to my home State of California, requiring the Director of National Intelligence to compile a threat assessment of foreign drug traffickers that are destroying our public lands here in the United States and causing unacceptable levels of violence because of their drug-growing operations in our public parks and forests. This bill requires the DNI to share this information with Federal land management agencies like the Forest Service so that we can take back our public lands."
