"This increase became very personal for me again last weekend when I attended a memorial dedication for Lance Corporal Bobby Wiley. Lance Corporal Wiley was a Lima Company marine and the son of my classmate and friend. As a result of Bobby’s death, a loving family and Nation grieve with loss. "
Honoring The Courage And Selfless Service Of Corporal Daniel Palmer Of Milton, Florida July 26, 2012
Jeff Miller, R-FL
"Mr. Speaker, it is with profound gratitude and sincere respect that I rise to pay tribute to the courage and selfless service of Marine Corporal Daniel Palmer of Milton, Florida. In 2010, then Lance Corporal Palmer was severely wounded on patrol in Afghanistan, while assigned to Third Battalion, Sixth Marine Regiment, Lima Company. After spending the last year in rehabilitation at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, I am happy to say that on July 27, Northwest Florida will finally be able to welcome home their native son and an American hero."
Honoring Lance Corporal Brandon Joseph Long May 11, 2011
Marlin Stutzman, R-IN
"Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor a true American hero, Lance Corporal Brandon Joseph Long of the 3rd battalion, 5th Marines, “Darkhorse” Lima Company from my district in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. On September 27, 2010, while out on point in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, Brandon stepped on a pressure plate which nearly cost him his life. He died four times on that day. He said the thought of Nicole and his child Clair kept him alive and that he left his body, but when he rose up to Heaven they told him that it was not his time. He has been part of one of the most courageous units, losing over 150 United States Marines. In a few short months he has come so far and a large part is due to his family. His lovely supportive wife and new born child have put a smile on his face and given him something to live for. Some people are put upon this earth to teach us and inspire us. Well, Brandon is one of those people. In honor of Brandon, I ask that this poem, penned by Albert Caswell, be placed in the Record."
Executive Session August 4, 2010
Sherrod Brown, D-OH
"Mr. President, I rise today to honor some 30 members of the Armed Forces who were killed in action serving our country. Five years ago this week, 19 marines from the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment lost their lives while serving in Iraq. It was one of the most catastrophic IED attacks on our forces up until that time in the war. Eleven of those marines were from the Lima Company, an Infantry Reserve company with marines from Cincinnati, Chillicothe, Tallmage, Willoughby, Delaware, and Grove City, OH."
Corporal Joseph A. Tomci Post Office Building November 5, 2009
Brian Bilbray, R-CA
"As a teenager he was determined to join the Marines. After the September 11th attacks, his decision was reinforced and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps just a few months after graduating from high school. Corporal Tomci was inspired by his favorite quote “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, Lima Company based in Camp Lejeune and quickly rose to a leadership position. He was deployed three times—Haiti in 2004, Fallujah, Iraq in 2005, and Ramadi in 2006."
