President’S Budget Proposal February 12, 2016
Garret Graves, R-LA
"So this budget, as submitted, does not include funds through the Corps of Engineers for projects like the Morganza to the Gulf project. It doesn’t include funds for important projects to prevent repetitive flooding, like the Comite project. It doesn’t fulfill the President’s commitment that he made to Louisiana in 2012, when he walked on the streets in St. John Parish and said he was going to advance the West Shore project to ensure that we don’t continue to see flooding from hurricanes and storms in St. John Parish and St. Charles Parish and some of the adjacent areas."
Wrrda Conference Report May 22, 2014
David Vitter, R-LA
"Certainly, in all of these categories I am talking about, there are major benefits to Louisiana. I thank all of my Louisiana partners who have done so much to give me the information and the expertise we needed to address these important areas, including Morganza to the gulf, which is very important to Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes, as well as our ecosystem restoration projects under the Louisiana Coastal Area Program, and many other important Louisiana priorities. Again, we could only address those properly with the full help and partnership of those Louisiana partners."
Wrrda May 21, 2014
Mary Landrieu, D-LA
"There are a couple of projects—I am going to finish in about 3 or 4 minutes, and turn it back over to Senator Boxer. First, there is Morganza to the Gulf, which was originally authorized over 20 years ago. That is going to provide levee and flood control protection to one of the fastest growing, most dynamic cities in this country—Houma, LA. It is an energy epicenter. It is an energy powerhouse for the people of Houma, the fabrication, the supply companies—such as in North Dakota—which is really one of the fastest growing communities in our country."
Water Resources Reform And Development Act Of 2013 October 23, 2013
Steve Scalise, R-LA
"I wanted to talk specifically about the Morganza to the Gulf project. I know the gentleman from Pennsylvania has been down to Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish and seen this project that is so vital, not only for hurricane protection, but also for protecting the infrastructure that produces 30 percent of our Nation’s oil and gas, a lot of the energy infrastructure for our country."
Default Prevention Act Of 2013—Motion To Proceed—Continued October 11, 2013
Mary Landrieu, D-LA
"We have levees to build. We have a big problem in our river parishes, as we call them, along Lake Pontchartrain. We have Morganza to the gulf, which is an important levee project for Houma, which is one of the centers for oil and gas production. This not only helps the people of Houma and Terrebonne Parish, but it helps the whole region and the whole country. It is sort of like a little Houston, if you will. Houma is like a little Houston. We don’t have all of the corporate structures, but we have all of the know-how, the goods and services, the providers, the boats, the planes, the ships, and the helicopters. They might have the gleaming office towers in Houston, but we have a lot of the hard workers in Houma."
